Will Steelers look to keep Fieler or go for a cheaper option

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s part of a 93.7 The Fan series of pros and cons for Steelers free agents to be.

OL-Matt Feiler

BIO-Ironic that he took over for Ramon Foster, who spent nine years as the Steelers starting guard after being undrafted out of Tennessee.  Feiler has been in the NFL for 7 years now, undrafted out of Bloomsburg.  He started with the Steelers on the practice squad in 2015 after an on-again, off-again relationship with Houston where he was released four different times.  Feiler is a survivor who first started 26 games at right tackle in 2018-19 and then paid 3.25 million this year to be the starting left guard.  Starting all 13 games he was healthy.

FOR-Feiler is a quiet, no-nonsense guy who is respected in the locker room for his perseverance.  He still has position flexibility to stay at left guard and improve on this season or move back out to tackle and add to the competition or replace Zach Banner.

AGAINST-It’s another position where the team could get a cheaper option.  Rookie Kevin Dotson played well, especially run blocking in the three games he started in Feiler’s absence.

PREDICTION-Feiler gets a multi-year contract with another team.  This one is close, what other Steelers veterans come back could affect this decision.
