Nick Sirianni isn’t kidding around about competition.
The Eagles announced on Tuesday that they will be holding joint practices with two teams during training camp, practicing with the New England Patriots in Philadelphia on Aug. 16 and 17, and then in New Jersey with the Jets on Aug. 24 and Aug. 25.
The Eagles have held practices with other teams in the past, but have never done it with two teams in the same training camp, a bold decision from rookie head coach Nick Sirianni in his first training camp.
The team also announced that the first practice of training camp will be on Wed., July 28 with players reporting the day before on July 27.
Although it is a bold move to hold practices with two teams, it is also a wise one. There is no question the best version of training camp practices are with another team. The intensity is higher and it gives you a chance to get looks against another team, as opposed to going against your own defense every practice.
Sirianni has talked a lot this offseason about competition. The decision to hold two joint practices is one of his first steps in backing that up and it not just being coach speak.
