Should Howie Roseman and the Eagles pursue star running back Jonathan Taylor via trade? Joe Giglio says no.

"I don't want Jonathan Taylor," Giglio said at the beginning of Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show, just as joint practice between the Eagles and Colts was getting underway as well. "I don't want the Eagles to trade for Jonathan Taylor. I don't think it is worth the cost it will take. He's a rental which means he'll either want a new contract—they could give it to him or it could just be a one year deal.

"But Hugh my perspective on this, last year he wasn't as good as two years ago. Last year, his numbers fell in almost every category. He had an ankle injury. And it reminds me of the Bijan Robinson thing a little bit, where I don't think they need a star back on this team. They have four quality backs, they have a quarterback who runs the football, they have a great offensive line. The Eagles don't need Jonathan Taylor."

Hugh Douglas agreed with his co-host, but 94WIP Afternoon Show host Ike Reese joined Giglio and Douglas as a guest and adamantly disagreed with them, resulting in a fun heated debate on the topic.

"Let me go find a great situation where I could at least maintain my value, potentially enhancing my value as a running back," Reese said on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show. "That's why the Eagles are a perfect destination. Not saying Miami, or some of these other places wouldn't be…Jonathan Taylor hasn't had the chance to play on the big stage. Primetime games, big stage, a Super Bowl contending team.

"Imagine what he could do with this team, this offense, with the weapons. He's played in a stacked box his entire career. Has he had a real quarterback to play with? No. If he can get the money somewhere, he's going to take the money. I'm just saying if there isn't any money out there available for him right now and now he's looking for the best situation. Great offensive line, young quarterback, weapons on the perimeter, a very good defense, and a weak conference. He's going to put up numbers on this team, easily 1,500 hundred yards! Easily with this offense he's going to put that up."

Douglas believes that whatever team acquires Taylor will have to give him a new long-term contract, while Reese believes a contending team can acquire him for just 2023.

The Colts gave Taylor permission to seek a trade on Monday and Indianapolis is reportedly seeking a first-round pick, or multiple picks that are equal to a first-rounder in value.

Taylor is entering the final year of his rookie contract which is worth just $7.8 million over four-years and is unhappy he did not receive an extension this offseason. His 2023 cap hit is $5.1 million and his salary is $4.3 million, but the Colts could look to eat some of the salary to facilitate a trade.

After an incredible 2021 campaign where he accumulated over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 20 total touchdowns, Taylor played just 11 games last season after suffering a high ankle sprain in December.

The Eagles have the 10th shortest odds at 20-1 to acquire Taylor before Week 1, according to BetOnline.ag.
