Tom Sullivan, long-time public policy watchdog joins the Mark Reardon Show to discuss the latest on the Loop Trolley, and how much it is costing St. Louis to operate.
“Every time you think the Loop Trolley has died, it somehow manages to try to resurrect itself. Right now they are asking for a 1.26 million dollars grant from the East West Gateway Council. Supposedly, they claim that they are going to mitigate traffic with the trolley and therefore going to improve the area quality. That makes no sense whatsoever, the Loop Trolley causes traffic. From that standpoint it makes no sense,” said Sullivan.
Later he said, “This trolley was planned with the idea that it was going to collect 400 thousand dollars a year in ticket revenue. Well, that has never happened. They’ve collected a tenth of that… I went and checked on it last Thursday to see what the riders were, and at 11:30 in the morning there were four people riding it. 2:15 had seven, and at 5:55 they had no riders.”
