A Detroit man is facing premeditated murder and other charges for a triple shooting that authorities say was over a $4 purchase at a gas station store.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced that 27-year-old Samuel Anthony McCray was arraigned Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Gregory Fortner-Kelly, non-fatal shooting of two other Detroit men, a 60-year-old and a 37-year-old, last Saturday morning.

Authorities said the trouble started when McCray tried to make a $4 purchase at the Mobil gas station, on W. McNichols near the Lodge Freeway, but his payment was declined.

When McCray tried to leave the store without paying for the items, the clerk locked the doors, trapping McCray and other customers inside.

One of the surviving victims, David Langston, told Fox 2 that -- as the clerk and McCray argued -- he and other customers begged the clerk to open the doors.

"We were like let us up out of here, we don't have anything to do with this. The guy like, 'If you don't unlock this door, I'm gonna shoot everybody in here,'" Langston told the TV station.

Langston said he also pleaded with the gunman not to shoot, but both requests were ignored, and the gunman opened fire on the customers -- killing Fortner-Kelly, whom Langston called his best friend.

Langston was shot in the back and the arm.

After the shooting, the clerk unlocked the door, and McCray fled the scene.

Police and EMS arrived, and both Langston and the other surviving victim were treated for non life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

McCray was tracked down by Detroit police and taken into custody on Sunday.

He has been charged with the following: One count of First-Degree Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, three counts of Felony Firearm, and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

McCray was remanded to jail without bond following his arraignment, as authorities stress that the investigation into aspects of this case continues.

“I want to be very clear,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy, in a statement. “The investigation in this case is not finished, it is on going.”

The prosecutor's office added that no further information would be released at this time.
