If anyone has any sort of an idea of what Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is going through, it’s Alex Smith.
The Washington Football Team quarterback, who coincidentally returned to the field for the first time since his horrific 2018 leg injury on Sunday, only to get home and see a fellow quarterback go down with a gruesome leg injury of his own.
Smith said on “The Dan Patrick Show” Tuesday that he has been thinking about Prescott a lot and has checked up on him through mutual friends, but has stopped short from contacting him directly, and for good reason.
“I just got home from the game, celebrating and taking it all in with the wife and kids, and had the Cowboys game on and watched it happen live,” Smith said. “I feel like I’ve become a little bit of an expert with the lower leg, so I knew it looked like his ankle immediately. For me, yeah, thinking about him a lot. I’ve checked on him through our mutual friends to see how he’s doing.
“I thought a lot about shooting him a text, part of me also didn’t want to scare the hell out of him by shooting him a text and getting him thinking he might be headed down this road. I’ll let the infection risk get out of the way and hopefully reach out soon.”
Smith also added that he’s been a fan of Prescott and has watched him closely since he came into the league in 2016 because the two have shared a lot of the same coaches dating back to their collegiate days.
“Dak’s a guy I keep up with a lot,” he said. “I love his game, love him as a human being and everything that he’s about.”
Smith is not the only one willing to reach out to the Cowboys quarterback. Celtics star Gordon Hayward, who suffered a fractured tibia and ankle dislocation, also offered any help he can provide.
