A 28-year-old in Colorado was recently pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving, and he had a brilliant idea to try and get out of a DUI: switch places with the person in the passenger seat.

Only it wasn’t a person in the passenger seat, it was his dog.

Still, the man thought his plan would work, though Springfield Police Chief Clay Klipfe witnessed the events in action.

Suffice to say, Chief Klipfe didn’t fall for it, and when he questioned the driver, the 28-year-old took off running.

The thing is, there were two sober people sitting in the backseat!  So A, why wasn’t one of them driving, and B, if you were going to attempt that switcheroo, why not do it with a person and not the dog?!

According to 9 News, the driver was later found to have two active warrants out of Pueblo, Colorado. He was medically cleared at a hospital and then booked into the Baca County jail for his warrants and on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving while ability impaired, driving under suspension, speeding and resisting arrest.

The other two occupants of the vehicle, as well as the dog, were sent on their way after the traffic stop.
