A woman in the UK named Deborah Hodge was prohibited from bringing pets into her apartment as her landlord had strict restrictions on animals living in the unit.
She has already had the rehome three animals prior due to these restrictions.
Hodge found an interesting loophole however to ensure that her cat India was able to live in her home: She married her.
The 49-year-old told the New York Post “By marrying India, I need any future landlords to know that we come as a package and we cannot be separated under any circumstances as she is as important to me as the children.”
“I refuse to be parted with her. I’d rather live on the streets than be without her.”
The ceremony was held April 19 in a park in Southeast London, and though Hodge says that many of her loved ones think she’s “bonkers,” she felt it was the only way to show she’s “very serious” about keeping India.
Despite the opinions of others, Hodge refuses to let go of the one thing she believes in: love.
“I don’t believe in organized religion; however, I do have faith. I am her universe and that is why I married her.”
