PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh ranks high on another list but this one might be a bit surprising to some.
ApartmentGuide.com says the ‘Burgh is the 5th best city in America for vegetarians.
The study considered the number of vegetarian, vegan and organic dining options per capita.
Smith adds a lot of establishments are only now offering vegetarian/vegan options because it is the trend. She says when she took over The Zenith the focus was on “not eating animals, not necessarily eating healthy.”

Smith says another reason she believes the non-meat diet is becoming more popular in Pittsburgh is because of the increasing age of the population adding that some doctors are advising older Pittsburghers to shy away from meat and focus on a more plant based diet.
