17-time regional Emmy winning journalist and media executive Michael Bartley is well known in the Pittsburgh area for his on-air (television and radio) work and his dedication to making Pittsburgh the most inclusive and welcoming and successful city in America.
Michael currently balances a hectic schedule with a full time position as VP of Development and PR at East End Cooperative Ministry, hosting LIVE talk on KDKA Radio 1020, and managing a video production business.
Michael is also the 15th Ward Democratic Chairman, covering several city neighborhoods including South Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, Hazelwood, Glen Hazel, and Glenwood.
Michael has a life-long love of his hometown city of Pittsburgh. He continues to publicize and promote the region at every turn. For some twenty years, Michael produced videos used for websites, social media and multiple delivery platforms.
Michael spent 17 years as Managing Editor and on-air Host at WQED Multimedia. He continues to work as an on-air narrator and producer for WQED long-form and documentary television stories. Michael is not only the recipient of multiple regional Emmys, he’s won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow and Gabriel awards. In 2006, he won The Bill Burns Award, named after the legendary KDKA anchor. The late Steelers Chairman and Ambassador to Ireland Dan Rooney called Michael Bartley’s stories “a true asset to the people of Pittsburgh.”
Pittsburgh viewers fondly remember many of Bartley’s highly produced documentaries, including the award-winning “From Pittsburgh to Poland: Lessons of the Holocaust,” and “From Pittsburgh to Haiti: Mission of Mercy,” and “From Pittsburgh to the Vatican.”
Michael serves and has served on many non-profit boards including The Art Rooney Awards, The Catholic Youth Association, Adagio Health, Saint Vincent College of Fine Arts, The Marquette University Les Aspin Center for Government. In 2019, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto appointed Mr. Bartley to the City Commission on Human Relations.
Michael is a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Oakland, and Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He loves to point out that he lives in the house he grew up in, in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood. How Pittsburgh is that?
