Eight teams have made it through to the Knockout Rounds of the 2024 NBA Cup and elimination games are set to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Most of the teams still fighting for the hardware in the in-season tournament’s second installment are legitimate playoff contenders, so there are sure to be some tough matchups before the championship game. The Thunder sit atop the Western Conference with a 16-5 record and are the No. 1 seed on the Western side of the bracket. The Thunder, who are 9-2 straight up at home, will need to beat the Dallas Mavericks at the Paycom Center on Tuesday before facing the winner of the Houston Rockets-Golden State Warriors series in Las Vegas, Nevada in a Semifinal matchup. The Rockets and Warriors are the only teams who’ve beaten OKC at home this season and the Thunder didn’t have Isaiah Hartenstein for either of those matchups. The Warriors secured their lone victory over the Thunder after Chet Holmgren went down with a hip injury five minutes into the contest. Loud City is 5-1 straight up with Hartenstein starting at center with three double-digit victories. Sleeper: Bucks (+500, BetMGM)
The Bucks hold the top spot on the Eastern side of the bracket and are one of the hottest teams in basketball right now. Milwaukee has rattled off seven consecutive wins and while they have the third-best odds, their depth and inconsistency makes them a little bit of a wild card. The Bucks have beaten one team that currently has a winning record this season and will have to get past the Orlando Magic before facing the winner of the New York Knicks-Atlanta Hawks matchup to reach the championship. However, Khris Middleton is nearing his 2024 debut and could give the Bucks a much-needed boost for the NBA Cup. The veteran wing could elevate his team’s play if he gets more than spot minutes here and there after a long layoff from five-on-five basketball.
