Monday night in the NBA brings an intriguing slate of matchups, offering plenty of value for moneyline bettors. From the surging Celtics hosting the Heat to a star-studded showdown between the Lakers and Timberwolves, there’s no shortage of excitement on the schedule. Let’s dive into the top moneyline plays for the night, with analysis and insights for each matchup.
Heat (9-9) at Celtics (16-4), 7:40pm ET
Heat (+275): Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford have already been ruled out while Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White are all questionable for Boston. I like Boston's bench, but not this much.
Pelicans (4-17) at Hawks (10-11), 7:40pm ET
Pelicans (+360): Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Jordan Hawkins, Herbert Jones and Jose Alvarado are out for the Pelicans, who have lost eight games in a row and 14 of their last 15 contests. Getting Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum back is a plus and I expect that they and Trey Murphy will put up a ton of shots. This is also a revenge game for Murray, who played in Atlanta! The Hawks beat New Orleans 126-111 in their first meeting of the year back on November 3, but Atlanta shouldn't be -500 favorites against anyone. No chance. Give me the Pels on the road.
Nets (9-12) at Bulls (8-13), 8:10pm ET
Bulls (-350): Cam Thomas, Bojan Bogdanovic, Noah Clowney, Day’Ron Sharpe and Jaylen Martin are all out for the Nets while Ben Simmons, Cameron Johnson and Ziaire Williams all got injured during yesterday’s game. Dorian Finney-Smith is also dealing with an injury and is questionable. I suspect that Simmons, Johnson, Williams and Finney-Smith will all sit in the second half of a back-to-back, thus creating a lack of depth for Brooklyn, who will rely mainly on Dennis Schroder and Nic Claxton. I expect the Bulls, who play at a very fast pace, to be able to overwhelm Brooklyn in this one and run away in the second half.
Lakers (12-8) at Timberwolves (9-10), 8:10pm ET
Lakers (+260): If you remember back to the season-opener, the Lakers beat the Timberwolves 110-103 (in Los Angeles) and in that one, Anthony Davis proved to be unstoppable, going off for 36 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. I love J.J. Redick’s decision to lean into LeBron James as his point guard and he’s led his team in assists in 13 of the last 15 games, operating as a floor general. The Lakers have won four of their last five road games while Minnesota has lost two of their last three home contests. Even if Anthony Edwards puts up a bunch of points, I trust the Lakers more, even if D’Angelo Russell (illness), Cam Reddish (illness) and Austin Reaves (pelvis) are questionable to play.
