The college football season is almost at an end already, if you can believe that. I swear, football season goes by far faster than any other sport and it isn’t even close. As we get close to the end of the year and to the new 12-team College Football Playoff, let’s check in on the latest odds to win the coveted Heisman Trophy right now over at BetMGM. The trophy goes to college football’s MVP, the best player in the nation.

Travis Hunter, Colorado: -1000

Ashton Jeanty, Boise State: +750

Cam Ward, Miami: +1200

Dillon Gabriel, Oregon: +6600

Quinn Ewers, Texas: +50000

At this point, the race is pretty much between Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter and Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty. Hunter is basically the Shohei Ohtani of football, playing both wide receiver and cornerback at a high level this season and contributing on both sides of the ball. As a result of all the stats he has accumulated, he is the overwhelming favorite to win the award right now at -1000. Unless he completely falls off over the last few games of the season, I don’t see how he loses it.

Jeanty was the favorite for a little while, but after a couple of games where he wasn’t rushing for nearly 200 yards and multiple touchdowns, he started to fall from the top and lose ground to Hunter. Still, it is hard to argue against his case to win the award, as he is having a historic season rushing the football. He has rushed the ball 275 times for 2,062 yards and a whopping 27 touchdowns this season. He’s averaging 7.5 yards per carry, which is just insane, but we all know running backs aren’t particularly favored in the football environment nowadays.

You also have to figure in the strength of the opponents they have faced. While Colorado certainly didn’t have the most brutal schedule of all time, they did play in the Big-12 conference against some serious competition. Jeanty plays in the Mountain West Conference, which just doesn’t have the same prestige as the Big 12. If he was doing this in the SEC, for example, I have almost no doubt that this race would be far closer right now. Fair or not, who you face plays a part in the selection process.

Right now, the only bet I would make would be Jeanty at +750, but I honestly think that is probably a donation. Hunter is extremely likely to win it, and that is reflected in his odds of -1000.
