The Lions and 49ers meet on Monday Night Football for a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship game. San Francisco got the best of Detroit, winning 34-31 with a second-half comeback. You can bet Detroit hasn’t forgotten that bitter loss and will come out with a chip on their shoulder tonight, eager for some payback. With both teams packed with talent, here are three intriguing bets to consider for the first touchdown scorer on Monday night:
Jahmyr Gibbs (+350, BetMGM)
Jaymyr Gibbs has the shortest first-touchdown odds of anyone tonight, but for good reason. He’ll have an increased workload with David Montgomery sidelined and it’s fair to assume the Lions will try and establish the run game early. Gibbs had nine red-zone touches last week in his first game without Montgomery and leads all Detroit backs with 58 on the season. He’s scored a touchdown in nine games this season and found the endzone first in four of those. With his anytime touchdown odds at -450 on BetMGM, the first touchdown market is the best way to back Gibbs.
Amon-Ra St. Brown (+700, BetMGM)
St. Brown has been a touchdown machine, finding the end zone in every game but five this season, including the last two. While not all of those TDs have been the first of the game, he’s the clear leader in red-zone targets for Detroit with 28, well ahead of Jameson Williams (10) and Tim Patrick (8). he 49ers are also great at defending tight ends which steers me away from backing Sam Laporta. If the Lions reach the red zone and decide to pass, it’s almost certainly going to St. Brown, making him a great value at +700
Jauan Jennings (+1500, BetMGM)
Jauan Jennings has only scored in three games this season, but in those games, he’s scored the game's first touchdown twice and the team's first touchdown once. With 14 red-zone targets, he ranks second on the team behind Deebo Samuel, who has been inconsistent as of late. With Samuel struggling, Brock Purdy might look to Jennings early in this game, especially given the Lions' weak secondary, which has allowed the second-most receiving yards to wide receivers this season. At +1500, Jennings is a solid longshot bet to score first tonight.
