There have been a lot of people this season that have doubted the Philadelphia Eagles for one reason or another, but they once again find themselves in the NFC Championship game, this time facing off against the Cinderella Washington Commanders. Many people think QB Jalen Hurts is awful, while many others think head coach Nick Sirriani is a clueless clown that stinks in the big moments. There are a ton of reasons people don’t like Philly, but I think one of the best analogies for this team was said on “You Better You Bet” the other day.
Nick Kostos, who hosts the show along with Femi Abebefe, had a rather amusing but potentially very true explanation for Philadelphia this season.
“The best GM in all of sports might be Howie Roseman, the Eagles general manager, who has assembled an absolute all-star team. Go back two weeks, Eagles vs. Giants in Week 18, the Eagles put out their inactive list. It was a f’ing all-pro team. Every player that was inactive, you’re like ‘pro-bowler, pro-bowler, all-pro, $250 million quarterback, all-pro, Offensive Player of the Year’. It’s crazy. It is an embarrassment of riches. The Philadelphia Eagles roster is a Ferrari.”
Comparing the team to an Italian sports car seems fair, but what he says next about the team makes even more sense.
“The problem is the people driving it: Helen Keller and Stevie Wonder.”
That is objectively a hilarious comparison, no doubt, but it also rings pretty true. Kostos explains why he believes this analogy fits perfectly with the Eagles:
“Nick Sirriani and Kellen Moore. What the hell are these two jabronis doing? I think the Eagles win in spite of the coach. Nick Siriani and Kellen Moore are clueless. The Eagles are winning these games because the talent on this roster is so overwhelmingly insane. They are the best team. One through 53, they are by far the best team left.”
The Eagles will face the Commanders this weekend for a trip to the Super Bowl, and Kostos has one question that he asked the audience before switching topics.
“I want someone to disagree with what I am about to say, and I don’t care if you think the Eagles are going to win, cover, win by 100. Here is the question: Which team has the better quarterback and which team has the better head coach in the Commanders vs. Eagles game? Before you bet on the game, I would strongly advise you to answer those questions. The great Jayden Daniels will play for a conference championship in his rookie season. The best rookie season by a quarterback in the history of the National Football League.”
We’ll see what happens in the game, but it is very hard to argue that the Commanders have Steve McQueen instead of Stevie Wonder.
