With roughly eight games left in the regular season, the Florida Gators sit just two games back from the top spot in the SEC standings. Auburn and Alabama currently share the conference lead at 9-1, while Florida and Texas A&M are right behind at 7-3. The Gators may have a tough path ahead, but at +2200 on BetMGM to win the SEC regular-season title, there's sneaky value on this squad.
The margin for error is razor-thin, meaning Florida will need to be nearly flawless down the stretch. Their schedule isn't easy, with four ranked opponents remaining, including a crucial showdown against No. 2 Alabama in early March. That game could very well determine the conference champion, as the Tide currently sit ahead of Florida in the standings.
There’s also reason to believe Alabama and Auburn might stumble down the stretch. They face each other twice before the season ends, and a split series seems likely. That alone cracks the door open for Florida.
Beyond that, both teams face brutal closing schedules. Seven of Alabama’s final eight games are against ranked teams, including four against top-five opponents. Auburn’s slate isn’t much easier, with five matchups against ranked foes.
KenPom projections are bullish on Florida’s chances, predicting a 7-1 finish, with the lone loss coming to Alabama. Meanwhile, KenPom has Alabama dropping four of its final eight games. If the Gators can pull off the upset against the Tide, they’d leapfrog them in the standings, assuming Alabama drops at least one other game. Auburn is projected to win out, but college basketball is unpredictable, and Florida already beat the Tigers in their lone meeting this season, which would give them a potential tiebreaker if it comes down to it.
All it takes is a few breaks going Florida's way, and suddenly that +2200 ticket looks like gold. Betting on chaos in college hoops isn't a bad strategy—especially when the odds are this good.
