Andy Reid is on the cusp of NFL history once again. The Kansas City Chiefs coach has a long history of postseason success and will put his name in the record books yet again in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Reid has now been a head coach in 44 playoff games and he’ll surpass the coach who’s widely considered the greatest of all-time.
Reid is tied with New England Patriots great Bill Belichick for the most playoff games as head coach in NFL history. The former Eagles legend set a franchise record with 10 playoff wins in Philly over 14 seasons and built on that by winning 18 playoff games with Kansas City after taking the head coach job in 2013. Patrick Mahomes’ ascendence into a starting quarterback role was the driving force behind Reid’s success with the Chiefs. There are no signs that he’ll slow down anytime soon, as he’s chasing his fourth championship and still has arguably the best quarterback in football under center.
Belichick might not have as many playoff wins as Reid when it’s all said and done, but he did win six Super Bowls as a head coach before heading back to the college ranks at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There’s still a chance he could return to the NFL to continue competing with Reid for GOAT status. Reid has the momentum leading a dynamic dynasty and could realistically climb to the top spot of the all-time NFL coaching ladder in the near future.
