The Super Bowl is coming up fast and we’re continuing to help you get ready to bet on it!
Today we have a treat for you in our boldest longshot predictions for the Big Game and these are some doozies.
Lucy: Overtime to Happen (+700, BetMGM)
These are the two best teams in the NFL this season and the spread is only 1.5 points, so this is a fairly evenly-matched Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Eagles. And when they met in the Super Bowl two years ago, the Chiefs won by only three points. This has only happened twice in Super Bowl history, but they were both in the past seven years. And one of them was of course the Patriots’ win over the Falcons, but the other was the Chiefs’ win over the 49ers just last year. And that was also a score difference of three points in the end. So there opportunity certainly exists that this Super Bowl also ends up going to overtime.
Matt: Eagles Win By 14+ (+550, BetMGM)
America wins. Okay, so while this is pretty improbable to be sure, the cheers throughout the NFL if KC was blown out would be too loud to ignore. Stopping the “three-peat” would end the “it’s rigged!” talk from fans and usher in a better future for the league. Mahomes has been blown out in the Super Bowl once, but that was against Tom Brady, which is understandable. However, the Bucs defense was the story in that game. Philly was the No. 1 defense against the pass and in yards per play allowed in 2024. What if they have a great performance and shut down a Chiefs offense that is actually pretty lackluster outside of a couple guys? It's certainly bold, but I don’t think it is out of the realm of possibility.
Kate: Octopus: Yes (+1400)
An octopus is when a player scores a touchdown and that same player also scores the following two-point conversion on the same drive. The player is responsible for all eight points of the drive, which is why it’s called an octopus. I could see this happening with Saquon Barkley, running in a touchdown and then being on the receiving end of a 2-point conversion. With this game expected to be close, it makes sense that one squad will potentially be going for two late in the game. Plus, two years ago when the Eagles faced the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII Jalen Hurts recorded the first Super Bowl octopus.
