The Kansas City Chiefs’ high-powered offense resurfaced against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship, but it might face an even tougher challenge in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. The Philadelphia Eagles boasted the NFL’s second-best scoring defense during the regular season and have the tools to neutralize Patrick Mahomes and company. They ranked first against the pass but they also have a weapon at linebacker that could make all the difference in the trenches. Let’s go over how Zack Baun could impact the big game.
Baun was considered to be the NFL’s highest-rated linebacker by PFF in 2024.
Only five players could top his mark of 151 tackles during the regular season and only TJ Watt forced more fumbles (5) than him. The 28-year-old is one of the league’s best solo tacklers and has made it clear that he’ll look to be a big part of Philadelphia’s run defense after amassing 26 tackles over his previous three playoff games.
Kansas City’s once prolific passing attack has fallen by the wayside. The Chiefs can still make big plays through the air, but four of the six offensive touchdowns they’ve scored this postseason have come on the ground. Mahomes and Kareem Hunt have rushed for two scores apiece. Baun’s playmaking up front alongside the Eagles defensive line could be the difference maker in the Super Bowl and bettors should consider how he can affect games when wagering on rushing totals.
