The city of Kyle, TX is planning on spending almost $1 million to move a large live oak tree called “Jolene” in order to make way for a three-lane expansion of Old Stagecoach Road.
The tree, which is estimated to be 400 years old, is proving to be a safety hazard for drivers, and the city believes moving the tree is safer than “expanding into nearby homes and properties,” according to NBC DFW.
Residents are worried that the tree won’t survive the move though.
According to the city of Kyle's bonds website, "Jolene" will be relocated 90 days before the Old Stagecoach Road improvements, which are planned to begin construction in March 2026.
Preparation for the trees' move is already underway, and the actual physical relocation will occur sometime in this fall.
