Multiple facilities across the Bay Area will transform into cooling centers to provide relief from the sweltering heat over the next few days.
Cooling buildings across the region include: community centers, senior centers, public libraries and even the public works building in Calistoga.
The City of Concord, expecting a high of 102 on Wednesday and 107 on Thursday, will offer air conditioning at the Sunvalley Shopping Center, several movie theaters and the Meadow Homes Spray Park.
Meteorologist Roger Gass at the National Weather Service said temperatures will be way up with humidity remaining low.
"We’re expecting upper 90s (Wednesday) to upwards of 100 to 105 degrees across interior valleys by (Thursday). And that’s when we’re expecting the excessive heat warning to be in effect,” Gass told KCBS Radio. "(Wednesday) we do have a heat advisory in effect for all interior areas away from the bay shoreline and away from the city of San Francisco itself.”
No fire warnings have been posted yet.
Scores of cooling centers will open around mid-day Wednesday through Friday afternoon. Masks will be required.
Cal ISO is also urging residents to conserve electricity to avoid blackouts.
