
The good news is there won't be the kind of winds that make PG&E nervous about lines going down and sparking fires, so there's no plan at this point for Public Safety Power Shutoffs.
But that doesn't mean the state's power grid isn't going to be under strain.
Cal ISO, the state agency that runs the grid, has issued a Flex Alert for Thursday, asking residents to conserve power from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.
The agency is also asking power plant operators to put off any planned maintenance that might force them to draw down output, meaning the state needs every bit of electricity it can get.
"We currently predict enough reserves on hand to cover the demand," Cal ISO Spokesperson Vonnette Fontaine told KCBS Radio.
Temperatures of 110-115 degrees will not be uncommon in the Sacramento or Central Valleys over the next several days, and much of the Bay Area will experience 90-degree and 100-degree temperatures.
