It was a very busy night on Sunday, July 4, for Oakland Fire Department crews.

The department had to call for mutual aid last night – support from other fire departments –  as they battled a 1-alarm, 2-alarm and a 3-alarm fire all starting within minutes of each other.

"It was a long night for the city, the city got spread pretty thin," said Oakland Fire Battalion Chief James Bowron.

The worst incident was a 3-alarm warehouse fire at 77th Ave and Spencer Street in East Oakland at a legal marijuana grow operation.

It started on the roof and spread to the attic, leading to a partial roof collapse.

According to Bowron, the business is looking at significant damage. Investigators are looking at fireworks as the possible cause of the fire, it’s possible illegal fireworks were involved.

"There were known fireworks going off in the area throughout the evening," said Bowron. "We can’t say that’s specifically how it started."

No injuries have been reported.
