As many as four people were hurt, including one killed, in a shooting early Monday morning on a Santa Rosa street that shortly before was packed with Independence Day celebrators.
Dozens of people were participating in an unofficial Independence Day block party which featured illegal fireworks on 1500 Beachwood Dr., according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
A silver Honda Accord drove into the neighborhood just after midnight, and witnesses said they heard “gang-challenges” from people inside the vehicle.
A vehicle occupant or occupants began shooting and struck three victims, one of which, a 35-year-old man, died. A 17-year-old female is in critical condition at a local hospital while a 16-year-old male sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Someone in the crowd returned fire as the vehicle tried to flee, prompting a second exchange of gunfire to occur and a 29-year-old woman was struck in the head. She is in critical condition at a local hospital.
The Honda crashed into a parked car and the suspects fled the scene on foot.
Officers have not been able to locate any of the suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.
