Schools, pharmacies, and pediatrician's offices are getting ready to vaccinate young people, but the wait times for the shots are keeping children from being inoculated right away.

KCBS Radio's Matt Bigler said that he's struggled to make appointments in the Bay Area for his own children.

"I would like my kids to be vaccinated because they are back in school," Bigler told Bay Current on Thursday. "I was not able to make an appointment in the East Bay, San Jose, San Francisco and Walnut Creek."

He said that there are currently no vaccine appointments available for children in the Bay Area, and each county has different allocations of vaccine doses.

"There's such high demand at this early phase in the rollout," Bigler added.

Children vaccinations will be available at CVS and Walgreens locations throughout the Bay Area, but healthcare officials recommend booking an appointment through your primary healthcare provider.

You should consult your county's health website to better understand when your child can receive their vaccination.
