The incident occurred at 12:20 p.m. at 14th St. and Webster St. Unidentified journalists from KRON were reporting on a story about an overnight retail robbery at nearby Prime 356 when a vehicle pulled up and suspects attempted to rob the crew of their camera equipment. A security guard working with the crew was shot in the lower abdomen and taken to Highland Hospital.

According to an update from KRON, the guard, who is a former police officer, was released from surgery as of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday and in stable condition.

In addition, the outlet reported that two more victims were involved in the incident, one of which was a man transported to Highland Hospital for treatment and was also listed as in stable condition.

No other information, including how the other victims were hurt and the extent of their injuries, has been made available.

KRON also noted that the female journalist working the story "still managed to do her job," during the attempted robbery, "recording the scene after the incident as it unfolded before her eyes."

"She was not physically injured but is understandably shaken," the station added.

"At KRON 4, the safety of our personnel is our top priority which is why we assign security to reporters when working in the field. Most importantly, our thoughts and prayers are with the security guard and his family and we wish him a complete recovery," KRON Vice President and General Manager Jim Rose said in a statement.

KCBS Radio has reached out to KRON for comment and has not received a response.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact investigators at 510-238-3426. Police and the security guard company which employed the injured guard are offering a total of $17,500 for information leading to the arrest of the individual, or individuals involved in the incident.
