One man lost his life and another was injured in a double shooting at a memorial vigil in East Oakland.
Officers responded to 77th and Bancroft on Wednesday where they found a 49-year-old Oakland man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was attending a gathering in honor of a homicide victim who was killed in the same location early Monday morning, officials reported to KTVU.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A 22-year-old man was also injured during the shooting. He was driven to a local hospital and treated for a gunshot wound.
The recent open fire follows a spree of shootings since Independence day. Oakland Police Chief told the station that seven people were shot in the span of twelve hours on July 4.
Gun violence was recently declared a public health crisis in Oakland.
