The number of Santa Clara County residents who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has now surpassed 1 million.
The county reached the milestone this week, officials announced Saturday.
As of Saturday, 60.3% of residents age 12 and older, or more than 1,034,000 individuals, had completed the vaccination process, according to the county’s dashboard. Data showed that 73.8% have had at least one dose of the vaccine.
“The vaccines are winning the fight, and the reason they’re winning is because they have an essential ally in everybody who is stepping up to get vaccinated,” said Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, COVID-19 testing and vaccine officer for the county. “COVID-19’s greatest and toughest enemy is a vaccinated community.”
Due to the continued vaccination of residents, and therefore the drop in coronavirus case rates, the county has also moved into the state’s Yellow Tier of reopening.
Officials are urging everyone 12 and older who has not yet gotten the shot to do so.
Santa Clara is offering walk-in vaccinations at many sites around the county. Two LGBTQ-focused vaccination events and numerous vaccination events aimed at youth are happening this week.
