
A carjacking suspect is dead following a violent confrontation with police in Oakland.
At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oakland police began receiving reports of an armed carjacking in East Oakland.

The suspect was found in the Temescal District in the area of 49th St. and Clark St., but when officers attempted to make contact he began firing several rounds at them. A pursuit ensued with a police helicopter following overhead.
The armed suspect drove into the 5900 block of Ocean View Dr., where he began using the carjacked vehicle to ram police vehicles and officers, officials said.
An officer shot the suspect who was then transported to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead. No Oakland police were injured during the incident.
A loaded firearm was recovered from the carjacked vehicle.
