Gun violence incidents are on the rise in San Francisco.

In the first six months of the year, there have been 119 victims of gun violence in San Francisco, involving deadly and non-deadly incidents. That is well above average dating back to 2016.

"I don’t know if there are more guns out there, but we’re definitely seeing more guns than we did last year at this time and we’re seeing a lot more armed suspects on the street," said Captain Carl Fabbri of the San Francisco Police Department.

Fabbri explained to KCBS Radio that criminals are being more brazen.

"I will see people break into a vehicle and when they’re confronted by the owners they pull guns," he said.

This increase of violence is not something that has been seen historically in the city. Police are onto these crews, sometimes gang members sometimes not, who are targeting tourist areas.

"We’re finding out where they live," Fabbri affirmed. "We’re going to their houses with search warrants. We’re recovering the property that they stole. We’re putting good cases on them that are going through the system."

Recently, additional beat patrols have also been a helpful deterrent.
