For many senior citizens, getting a COVID-19 vaccine is a complicated endeavor because of transportation, scheduling and other issues.

That’s part of the reason the city of San Jose has teamed up with Bloom Energy to introduce a vaccine and testing site on wheels.

“We have a lot of places in our community where seniors can’t easily access the vaccine,” said Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez.

She told KCBS Radio that helping those seniors is a priority.

Bloom Energy Executive Carl Guardino said the mobile testing and vaccine site is coming soon.

“The new unit has been ordered as of Friday,” he noted. “It’s being built out as a medical unit to join the fleet this summer.”

The mobile testing and vaccine bus costs about $200,000.

“We know there are many more that we could reach, they could reach, with this mobile unit and that is going to make all the difference in saving lives,” San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said.
