SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has publicly disclosed her earnings, revealing that she pocketed a six-figure salary earlier this year from an organization linked to the recall campaign of Chesa Boudin.

KCBS Radio Insider Phil Matier called the organization a "roll back of progressive politics" in San Francisco.

"What we have here is a movement that was out to reshape some of San Francisco's politics — the School Board and the District Attorney's Office. In other words, they were unhappy with how the School Board was dealing with students and how the District Attorney was dealing with open drug dealing and other problems on the streets," Matier told KCBS Radio's Melissa Culross and Eric Thomas on Wednesday.

The movement had several arms within San Francisco, two of which were connected. The first is a nonprofit called Neighbors for a Better San Francisco, which is barred from participating in elections. The second is Neighbors for a Better San Francisco Advocacy — a political pact that backed the recall of Chesa Boudin.

After leaving her position at the DA's office under Boudin, Jenkins was hired at Neighbors for a Better San Francisco nonprofit as a consultant and paid a salary of $100,000, Matier said.

"What she was doing was working for Neighbors for a Better SF, getting a check from them, while volunteering for Neighbors Advocacy during the campaign. She was an impromptu spokesperson getting paid by the nonprofit," he explained.

In terms of legality, Matier said Jenkins does not appear to have broken any state or legal laws, and according to his sources, the current DA told SF Mayor London Breed about the relationship before she was appointed. "If anything, the mayor thought it was a pretty good combination because she was looking for someone who could get reelected come November," he said.

Jenkins officially filed to run for full term in the city's November election on Monday. She has until Friday to see if someone steps forward to oppose her.
