Following the recall of former DA Chesa Boudin in June, Jenkins was appointed to succeed Boudin by San Francisco Mayor London Breed.

In a step to secure her position as DA, Jenkins filed paperwork with the Department of Elections on Monday to run in the November election.

"On June 7, voters sent a clear message that they wanted a change in approach & leadership at the District Attorney's Office. I have been working every day to help bring that change. San Francisco can have both public safety & critical reforms," Jenkins wrote in a tweet.

The interim DA previously worked for Boudin, but then quit and became a leading spokesperson in his recall campaign.

Breed told KCBS Radio on Monday that she likes the job Jenkins has done so far. "People are sick and tired of the burglaries, the open-air drug dealing, the violence and other things that need to be addressed, especially after the police make an arrest, and I think that that's what she brings to the table," the mayor said.

Adversaries of Jenkins worry that the work Boudin had done for criminal justice reform may get pushed to the side in the wake of Jenkins' new goals as District Attorney, as she has indicated she may reverse some of the action instituted by the previous administration, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

"It's not to say that we are going to throw out criminal justice reform," Breed said. "That's an important part of this, too, but we also definitely need to have the accountability piece, and that's what Brooke Jenkins is focused on."
