Solomon Tolbert, 36, appeared in San Francisco Superior Court on Tuesday after the San Francisco Police Department arrested him on multiple charges earlier this month, according to court records.
Police alleged in a press release on Tuesday that Tolbert robbed an 81-year-old man of "his personal belongings" on the morning of April 10, about 12 hours before stealing a 71-year-old woman's car and "partially" striking her with the vehicle before driving away.
The Oakland Police Department stopped the car in the city on April 11, finding Tolbert inside. San Francisco police said he was arrested that day, then again three days later on charges stemming from the initial robbery after "investigators obtained probable cause."
In all, police arrested Tolbert on two felony elder abuse charges, as well as felony counts of assault with force likely to commit bodily injury, battery causing serious bodily injury, carjacking, second degree robbery
Tolbert allegedly approached and "aggressively asked" the 81-year-old man for money near Leavenworth and Eddy streets. The man said no, and he told investigators that Tolbert then pushed him to the ground before robbing him. He was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries, according to police.
Just before 10 p.m. on April 10, and nearly 12 hours after officers investigated the alleged robbery, a 71-year-old woman told officers she was carjacked on the 2100 block of Mission Street. The woman said she parked her car there and, as she was walking into a nearby business, Tolbert asked her for money. She said no, then said no again when he asked as she walked back to her car.
When she tried to get in her car, Tolbert allegedly took her keys, struck her with the car and drove away. Medics treated her for minor injuries, according to police.
Tolbert is due back in court on Friday, according to records. Pretrial hearings for his arrests earlier this month are scheduled, as is a trial hearing for misdemeanor charges stemming from another arrest. Tolbert will be arraigned in the alleged carjacking on May 10, according to court and sheriff's records.
