President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will meet with Gov. Gavin Newsom and six other governors on Friday to discuss efforts to prevent wildfires, White House officials have confirmed to The Sacramento Bee.

This will be the second meeting Biden has had with Western governors on wildfires. They last spoke on June 30, when he announced a plan to raise pay for U.S. Forest Service firefighters.

California has had 5,671 wildfires in 2021 so far, including the growing Dixie Fire in Butte and Plumas counties. It has already burned over 220,000 acres, making it one of the largest wildfires in California history.

The Biden administration "plans to create new working groups as part of the National Climate Task Force's effort to confront wildfire and extreme heat incidents," the paper said.

The president and the vice president will meet with governors from California, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Washington, Idaho and Minnesota.

The meeting is expected to be late morning or midday, per CNN.
