Tech giant Jack Dorsey announced his resignation as Twitter CEO on Tuesday, ending a 16-year career at the Silicon Valley social media hub.

The replacement for Dorsey is Twitter's chief technology officer Parag Agrawal, who has been with the company for over a decade.
Jason Brooks, KCBS Radio's Business Editor, said that Dorsey is truly one of Silicon Valley's social media visionaries.
"He grew the company into the powerhouse that it is now," Brooks said on KCBS Radio's "Bay Current" on Tuesday. "He created Square, which is a growing fintech, and he's shared CEO roles between the two companies."
Dorsey announced his plan to leave on his Twitter feed by publishing an email he sent to the entire company. Dorsey did not give a specific reason for his departure but simply said that he wanted to move forward.
"I don't think that Twitter has been much of a passion for him," Brooks explained. "Dorsey has found himself in so many controversies with banning Trump or dealing with conservatives saying that Twitter favors liberals. I don't think that’s what he wanted to be doing."
Twitter's stocks have risen in the weeks leading to Dorsey’s announcement, with shares rising to nearly 11%.
"There are a lot of people that have wanted Dorsey gone," Brooks noted. "Not just people on the right, but big investors. People are excited that Twitter has new management."
