The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said a father, 41, shot and killed his three children inside a church in the Arden Arcade area before shooting and killing himself. According to a CBS 13 reporter at the scene, the father appeared to be on a supervised visit with his kids when he opened fire in the church.
The fifth victim was a chaperone present to supervise the visit, KPIX reported. The children were ages 9, 10, and 13, according to the outlet.
A church worker who was upstairs heard the shots shortly after 5 p.m. and went outside to call dispatchers, the sheriff's office said.
Roads along Wyda and Ethan Ways are closed while deputies are investigating.
Gov. Gavin Newsom took to Twitter to announce that they are actively monitoring the shooting and working closely with local law enforcement. "Our thoughts are with the community, parishioners, and all those impacted by this horrific event," Newsom wrote.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
According to the most recent post by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Monday at 9:45 p.m., the investigation is still ongoing.
