The results of a new poll by the Public Policy Institute of California show that despite news of new variants, almost three-quarters of Californians say the worst of the pandemic is behind us.
There has been a significant increase in optimism about the pandemic.
"Now about three-quarters of Californians say the worst is behind us," said Mark Baldasarre, president and survey director of the Public Policy Institute of California.
In January, only 58% said the same, and less than 50% said the worst was behind them in the fall.
"Almost half of Californians [are] now saying they feel the state is doing an excellent or good job with the rollout of the vaccine, and about eight in 10 are saying that they have already taken the vaccine or they definitely or probably will take the vaccine when it’s available to them," Baldasarre told KCBS Radio.
With coronavirus closures being one of the biggest issues for those hoping to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom, this approval bodes well for the first-term Democrat.
