An escaped, burned bear cub – affectionally known as "Tamarack" – has finally been spotted 10 months after slipping away from a Lake Tahoe wildlife enclosure. The cub was being treated by officials at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care after it was badly hurt in the Tamarack Fire and was spotted in Markleeville, Calif. walking on its elbows because of severe burns on its paws.

When "Tamarack" escaped, doctors were waiting to go through with a Tilapia skin grafting procedure until the animal's wounds further heal.

But that time never came.

With bandages still on its paws, the determined cub "managed to tunnel under an electric fence." Despite officials' pleas for the public to help locate it, "Tamarck" was last seen in August and hasn’t been heard from since.

That is, until now.

In a video posted to social media, a now-grown bear thought to be "Tamarack" can be seen playing in a creek with a bear toy, of all items. The account, Tahoe Toogee, identifies the bear by the "burn scars on its toes." It's not clear where or when the video was taken – and it can't be fully proven the bear is, in fact, "Tamarack."

KCBS Radio has reached out to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for comment but has not yet heard back.
