Surfer dies from shark attack in Morro Bay

A man has died after being attacked by a shark off the coast of Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo County.

A man has died after being attacked by a shark off the coast of Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo County.

The man appeared to be bodyboarding early Friday before he was pulled unresponsive from the water by a nearby surfer, officials stated. Police received reports around 10:48 a.m. of a male victim on the beach, suffering from an apparent shark attack.

When paramedics arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

County officials have not yet released the man's identity as they are in the process of contacting family members. Beach goers were ordered to stay out of the water for 24 hours after the fatal attack.

A sign in the parking lot announced the beach closure, stating, "warning fatal shark attack Friday, Dec. 24."
