We're free of pandemic restrictions and other viruses are spreading as a result.
You expect coughing and sniffles to go around in the winter, but in July?
Doctors are seeing more children with colds than usual for this time of year. A difficult cold and flu season could be coming up this winter.
"I've not seen as many ear infections or croups or colds or strep throat this time of year," said Allegheny Health Network pediatrician Dr. Michael Petrosky.
He said he's seen a lot of kids along with adults around them, sick with the viruses that are most common when the weather's cold.
Petrosky said a lack of COVID restrictions is partly to blame.
"The laxation of the measures for social distancing, masking has gone down. There's more of the communicable diseases."
As doctors deal with that uptick now, they're also preparing for a busy cold and flu season; especially with children.
"We expect a lot of viral illnesses to be circulating, especially when school starts because we know usually, it's within the first week or two of when school starts, we start seeing a lot of the runny noses," said Petrosky.
He anticipates a severe cold and flu season later this year.
