This is the time of year gas prices typically go up ahead of summer travel, but now add crude oil prices and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Gas on the eastern side of the state hit an average of $4.50 a gallon overnight.

AAA's Jim Garrity says people are still extremely motivated to travel following the pandemic, high gas prices or not.

“It was about that $4 mark where consumers started saying to themselves, ‘I’m going to make changes in my daily habits,’ because they want to prioritize things like vacations, road trips.”

Currently, the higher Pennsylvania gas prices are on the eastern side of the state. Locally, we're seeing an average of $4.38 a gallon.

Garrity also said we did have a little bit of a lull, but the time of year and crude oil prices are making it more expensive to fill up.

“We’re going into the time of the year where that’s what happens with gas prices. Of course, we’re in the middle of high oil prices and they continue to rise. They’re up about $107 today.”
