Giant Eagle says its pharmacies are ready to distribute COVID-19 vaccine to general public

As Pennsylvania prepares to offer COVID-19 vaccine to the general public, Governor Tom Wolf this week authorized pharmacies in the state to administer the vaccine.

In a statement to KDKA Radio, Giant Eagle says their pharmacies are ready once government health officials give the okay to do so.

"In these early stages of distribution, we are helping state and local health departments administer the vaccine to the government-designated 1A group.

"We are prepared to administer the vaccine to the general population as soon as government authorities make the vaccine available for broader distribution.

"Nearly every one of our 700 Giant Eagle Pharmacists is a licensed vaccinator, with experience handling a variety of vaccines such as seasonal flu, shingles and pneumococcus."

Wolf temporarily lifted a restriction to allowing pharmacists to do so without a doctor's order.
