PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Pennsylvania State Troopers Association President Dave Kennedy is demanding an apology from Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.
Wolf sent a letter to state employees last week that recognized Juneteenth as a holiday. Included in the letter, Wolf said "the continued death of African Americans at the hands of police and rise in violent attacks against Asian Americans are painful reminders that racism and intolerance are still with us today."
Kennedy said Wolf is playing politics with these kinds of comments.
Wolf responded to Kennedy during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Tuesday.
"I'm sorry Dave took it that way, and that certainly was not the intent to insult the Pennsylvania State Police," Wolf said.
Morning show co-host Kevin Battle asked the governor if he could take back what he said and re-word it.
"Yea, I think I'd say we really want to recognize June 19th and the 18th as the Friday before June 19th, and have a holiday to recognize how important that is to all of our efforts to bring equity and fairness to our population. That's what I was trying to say," said Wolf.
