A Canonsburg man is facing almost six decades in prison after being accused of embezzling $6.8 million from Hillandale Farms in Greensburg.
The indictment against 57-year-old Jonathan Weston was announced Thursday by the acting U.S. Attorney Stephen Kaufman.
Weston, who owns several businesses in the Pittsburgh area, is the former accountant for Hillandale Farms and allegedly conspired with someone only known as "VP" to embezzle money from Hillandale and then launder the money through businesses controlled by both parties.
Kaufman's office says approximately $6.8 million was stolen from Hillandale Farms and then used to buy real estate, purchase collectible cars and was used on other "lavish" personal expenses.
The indictment also alleges that Weston did not file tax returns in 2015 and 2018 and filed false returns in 2016 and 2017.
Weston is charged with fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and tax fraud
If convicted, Weston could be sentenced to 58 years in prison, a fine of $2,550,000 or both.
The IRS Criminal Investigation and the FBI conducted the investigation.
