Kennywood will open for the season on April 22, as scheduled.

Park leaders made the announcement on Monday, after meeting with representatives of the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.

D.A. Steven Zappala had previously said he would challenge the park’s opening if it failed to comply with his office’s suggested security changes.

Three people were hurt in a shooting incident at the park last fall.

They announced number of police personnel inside the park will be doubled.

Other increases to safety: all guest 17 or younger must be accompanied by an adult; additional lighting and security will be along the parks perimeter to prevent people from avoiding security.

Other updates and changes to the security procedures include a new bag policy and an alteration to the mask policy.

The new ride will open on Memorial Day weekend in the new Area 412 section of Kennywood along with a rebranded gift shop.

Other sections of the park are getting improvements as well.
