A local ice cream shop and restaurant in Southwestern Pennsylvania will celebrate its final seasonal opening day this weekend, and that’s a good thing.

Tastyland on the 1400 block of Route 66 in Greensburg has been around for nearly 75 years.

They've installed a drive-thru window so they can serve their customers 365 days a year, not just during the spring and summer months.

They’ll open for business on Saturday, May 18.

Ryan with Tastyland tells KDKA Radio says there were several factors that went into installing the drive-thru.

“One, was because we lose money from closing and reopening every year,” said Ryan. “Two, we want to hire people year-round and provide consistent income to our staff. Three, was because we hate wasting food and closing forces us to waste food. Now with being year-round we can continue being a near-zero food waste restaurant year-round.”

While the drive-thru menu will be slightly different, Tastyland will still offer soft-serve ice cream along with their famous “locally-sourced beef burgers.”

“We are really excited to start serving our community again!” Tastyland tells KDKA Radio. “We have a have a bunch of new specials for burgers and our ice cream we have been developing in our off season! We can’t wait to see the reactions.”
