A Beltzhoover man barricaded himself into a Southside home while a family slept inside after police responded to a shooting alert.

A ShotSpotter alert summoned Pittsburgh Police to the 100 block of Zara Street around 9:20pm Tuesday night.

As they arrived, police saw a man fleeing the scene. He then forced entry into a home on Zara Street.

Following verbal commands from police for the man to exit the home, two adults who live in the home came out, but a young girl was still asleep in an upstairs bedroom.

They also told police that they did not know the man who broke into their home.

Police were able to get the girl out safely.

They found the man in the basement of the house, hiding in a utility room. He reportedly refused commands to surrender or show his hands.

Police sent in a K-9 and police say the man sprayed laundry stain remover in the dog's face a number of times.

After multiple attempts, police were finally able to take 26-year-old Donald Kidd into custody. He was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries and was then taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Kidd is facing charges of criminal trespass, resisting arrest and taunting a police animal. He also had an outstanding warrant in Upper St. Clair.

The investigation into the shooting continues. No injuries or damage as a result of the shooting have been reported at this time.
