The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Department is thanking a good Samaritan for acting quickly after a deck fire overnight that saved property and “possibly lives.”
The fire broke out early Friday around 3:30 a.m. when a neighbor smelled smoke and went to investigate.
After finding the fire on a porch about street away, he was able to extinguish most of the fire with a garden hose from a nearby home.
Cranberry VFC arrived shortly after and took over the scene and found the fire was contained to the deck.
There were several people inside the home at the time of the fire.
“Kudos to the man that did this action- he wishes to not be named but he saved property and possibly lives by taking matters into his own hands and investigating the cause of the smell,” Cranberry FD said in a Facebook post.
The fire department didn’t share the exact location of the deck fire.
