Hurricane Ida made life even more difficult for the already-harrowed doctors and nurses at Thibodaux Regional Health Center in Louisiana’s Lafourche Parish.

As the monster storm moved through on Sunday, the hospital experienced partial loss of their emergency generator power in the ICU, necessitating the transfer of patients there to a different area through the stairwell.

Staff had to manually pump air into the patients’ lungs throughout the transfer until their ventilators could be powered again, according to NOLA.com.

Louisiana State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter told the news site that the hospital’s other generators are still operational. He did not say how many patients were transported.
